Do you have a family vacation coming up and aren’t sure how you’ll survive traveling with you little ones? Look NO further because I am going to share with you the NUMBER 1 THING that got us through our recent INTERNATIONAL TRIP to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with not just 1 Toddler, but 2 TODDLERS!
In this post, I will give you the top 5 items you need to successfully travel with a toddler. (Or in our case, twin toddlers!) We also give you a list of the essentials needed for a smooth plane ride with your little ones!
We are FINALLY HERE with the LONG-AWAITED series of blogs where we give you the SCOOP on how to survive traveling with your little ones!
As you now know, the hubby, twins and I were invited to the Nickelodeon Resort in Punta Cana! Now normally a trip like this wouldn’t really phase me at all…we’ve traveled many many times with Jaxson and Jayla BUT what made this travel experience different was not only the fact that we were traveling INTERNATIONALLY (So we had to get them passports), but we were also now dealing with traveling with 2 1/2 year-old toddlers who are into EVERYTHING and do NOT like sitting down for long periods of time! LOL! (Not to mention the fact that they now have their own seat on the flight since they are past the lap child age of 2!) 🙂
SO…with further adieu…here is the 1 LIFE-SAVING TIP I’m going to share with you that got us through both of our 14-hour travel days! (to Punta Cana and back): CREATE AN ACTIVITY BOX FOR EACH CHILD!
What is an activity box? Well, let me fill you in! It is a box filled with items to occupy your little one during travel! The beauty of it is, they are compact and portable, and give your toddler plenty to do while in flight…all while keeping your sanity and not disturbing others on the flight as well!
Here is a quick snapshot of some of the items I added to Jaxson and Jayla’s activity boxes that kept them occupied the ENTIRE FLIGHT!
The other amazing thing is that you can get as CREATIVE as you want with these boxes and cater each of your Travel Activity Boxes to each of your child’s likes! I also made sure that every item I included in their respective boxes were not only fun for them but educational to them as well. (Why not take advantage of every possible opportunity to further educate your kiddos?)
HOW TO CREATE A TRAVEL ACTIVITY BOX
Check out my video on how to create a Travel Activity Box for each of our twin toddlers! (Plus, I share a few other life-saving items to help you get through a travel day with your littles!)
Here are some of the items I mention in my video that are ESSENTIAL for an AMAZING ACTIVITY BOX!

MINI PLAY-DOH: https://amzn.to/2vZsWi4

TODDLER MARKERS: https://amzn.to/2LPpjGm
MINI COLORING BOOKS: https://amzn.to/2Wb2OPZ
PENCIL CASES: https://amzn.to/2Ec8BuA
As you can see, not only did we survive the 14-hour travel day (both coming and going) but we had an AMAZING time on our trip! (And…the kids used the activity boxes the entire time we were on our trip too!)
Jayla never wanted wanted to take it her everywhere we went! LOL!
Oh and did I mention that those backpacks with the “leashes” were a HUGE SUCCESS for us as well? They absolutely LOVED their backpacks! The kiddos never wanted to put them down!
I HIGHLY recommend grabbing this SPECIFIC travel backpack for your littles! They are SUPER ROOMY and they are INSULATED so you can use them for lunches, snacks, juices and more! (Annnd unlike MOST of the backpacks with “leashes” we looked into, they are also SUPER ROOMY!)
I hope these tips helps you guys with your upcoming travel plans!
